Bus driver remains unconscious after accident

Following a bus accident, the driver of the bus remains unconscious. The accident occurred when a Lowes truck ran a stop sign and collided with a school bus carrying elementary and middle school students. Two involved suffered serious personal injury: the 71-year-old bus driver and a 14-year-old girl.

The girl was taken to a hospital following the wreck, along with 28 other students and three adults. She was recently moved to a rehabilitation center where her mother says she'll spend at least one month.

New facts surrounding lethal crash discovered

Since a Jan. 4 accident, investigators have been piecing together the circumstances surrounding a car crash that killed all three occupants of the only vehicle involved. The Porsche Panamera, driven by a prominent Forth Worth-area lawyer, was also carrying a male and female passenger when it crashed through a guardrail and collided with a canal wall.

The lawyer, 41, was a Fort Worth native who dealt mainly with asbestos and mesothelioma lawsuits. He was well-known for winning multimillion-dollar settlements. The two passengers in the car accident were a 23-year-old male and a 21-year-old female.

Women get lost at night, end up in poorly lit lake

When someone driving is involved in a car accident, it might not necessarily be their fault. Roads can often be dangerous, and local and state governments do not do enough to make those roads safe. While it does not necessarily absolve a driver who was acting recklessly, it does mean that another entity could also be held at fault.

This could be the case in a recent car accident in Dallas, after two women drove into Lake Ray Hubbard late last month. According to police, the two women drove down a boat ramp into the lake.

Speed Limit Increase for More Texas Highways Approved

Thursday, the Texas Transportation Commission approved a speed limit increase from 70 to 75 mph on some 1,500 miles of state highway.  Signs will go up in the next several weeks, but until they do, note that the posted speed limit remains in effect.  North Texas motorists should look for these changes on I-35 south of Hillsboro and on I-20 west of Weatherford towards Abilene.

State engineers routinely conduct extensive testing to determine if the proposed roadways can safely handle such an increase in speed before making such changes.  The fact that engineers concluded that drivers are likely already driving these speeds a good deal of the time is probably not surprising to drivers familiar with traffic norms in the area.

Regardless of the posted speed limits, however, motorists should always drive defensively and practice safety behind the wheel.  In addition to the speed limit allowed by law, drivers should also consider the road conditions, weather, visibility, and other varying factors that may make it advantageous to drive slower on any given day.

Officer fired after fatal DUI

A police officer in Texas who was involved in a fatal DUI was fired the next day. The drunk driving accident occurred earlier this month and resulted in the death of a woman and her 13-year-old son. The officer involved had been on the police force for less than one month.

According to investigators, the officer had been drinking at a local bar and gave the keys to his truck to a friend. That action would have been a responsible one if his 23-year-old friend had not also been drinking. He also had a suspended license.

Car accident seriously injuries Texas cyclist

A car accident in Dallas that snared a bicyclist is drawing harsh criticism from the cycling community, which says the city does not do enough to ensure their safety on the roads.

The 32-year-old cyclist from Oak Cliff was riding along the side of Jefferson Road on a viaduct. A car slammed into him, throwing him up on the windshield, causing him serious injury.
