A Word On The Jury SystemOur jury system is under attack. It has been labeled as ineffective, slanted towards the rich, yet also as a "lottery" to get rich quick, for the poor. We want you to know that the system is not perfect, however the founders of our Constitution placed great emphasis on protecting our rights to a jury trial. Throughout history, often the only thing standing in the way of the powerful government and big business is twelve people like you who took the time out of their lives to serve on a jury. History notes several examples of cases of oppression and did the right thing, thereby starting the process of righting a wrong with it's verdict. The judicial system is not a determiner of legislation, but serves the necessary purpose of providing checks and balances in our system of government. We understand money can never replace a loved one taken from this world wrongfully. We know money can not put a life torn apart by amputation, paralysis, brain damage or sex abuse, back together. We know that to you, your loss is the most significant loss in the world. We try to acknowledge all of these things as we attempt to fill those voids that can be filled utilizing our system. You should not be treated as "greedy" in pursuing the only remedy you often times haven when something irreplaceable is taken and the wrongdoer refuses to accept responsibility. Responsibility is fixing what you "broke" or attempting to remedy the damage or loss caused. If those who took from you were willing to accept the responsibility they want you to take by simply "living with it" or accepting your injury or death as merely something "life" hands down, you would not need us. It is this hypocracy of their position that is most offensive and illustrates why a jury system is necessary. The Law Offices of Randall D. Moore |
